How safe is the artifical turf your child plays on?
In an article in the Dutch Medical Journal, scientists and medical doctors have expressed their concern about children playing on artifical turf sports fields with crumb rubber infill. Crumb rubber is made from scrap tires. Tires contain several toxic chemicals such as BPA, phthalates and flameretardants. However according to the Dutch government there is no risk to public health. The scientists say that if the latest scientific insights would be taken into account, the Dutch government would have to change this position. They advise parents to minimise their children’s exposure to crumb rubber.
